How to Create “Monsters” From Coffee Boxes

With Halloween and the kids’ costume party just around the corner, I’m kicked in high gear brainstorming, designing, creating and ordering decorations and treats for this group of toddlers!

An idea struck me last week while unpacking a box of k-cups……why not turn this empty box into a “monster”? So I gathered materials from around the house that I was saving to recycle into crafts: k-cup box, toilet paper roll and left-over streamers from their birthday parties.

How to create monsters from boxes

Although I don’t have a step-by-step guide, this project took about 20 minutes to complete per “monster” and just required a little creativity! No need to be perfect, have you ever seen a perfectly symmetrical monster?

Materials:

  • K-cup box
  • Toilet paper roll
  • Crepe streamers
  • Eyes (print from Google images)
  • Construction paper (for decorations)
  • Toothpicks
  • Mod Podge
  • Tape
  • Scissors

Design Tips:

  • Review Google images to get inspiration, then pick your colors and start gluing and taping!
  • Toilet paper roll can be cut in half lengthwise and wrapped with streamers to create arms!
  • Use toothpicks wrapped in crepe streamers to create height for the eyes!
  • Use regular printer paper to cut out teeth! Start with a solid shape that is larger than the mouth opening (you’ll need some room to tape the teeth to the inside of the box) and cut away!
  • Start taping the streams from the inside of the mouth opening and wrap around to tape to the other side of the opening.
  • Use Mod Podge to glue streamers to the top of the box.
